Digital Humanitiarian – Archaeologist – Biblical Scholar

 

My name is Cale Staley and I am a Masters student in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Iowa working with Dr. Robert Cargill.  I am interested in both the digital and textual aspects of religious studies. I am an assistant area supervisor at the Lautenschläger Azekah Expedition at Tel-Azekah in Israel where I have spent the last two summers excavating. One of my main digital projects is creating a digital model of Tel-Azekah chronicling the excavation process and implementing a new and unique data management system.

 

My research interests include the Persian Period in the Levant, archaeology, and the role of Iranian thought in forming the Hebrew Bible. This blog will discuss my current research topics with Hebrew texts and archaeological projects including 3D archaeological modeling and digital mapping of texts and networks.  I feel passionately about cultural heritage and the preservation of history with the digital humanities, aiming to bridge the gap between the fields of biblical studies and archaeology with digital innovation.
